Otto Stutz is only 23 years of age, and there is no doubt that he is of Swiss nationality. He has come out here, under agreement, for the period of the war, as a clerk in the Orient Tobacco Manufactory (C. Ingenohl) to replace one of the Germans who has been interned.

3.

He and his effects were well searched, he is very youthful, and hardly seems the type of person to be dangerous. He speaks very good English, Germm and French.

4.

His recent history is as follows:- For 7 years he was employed as correspondence clerk with the firm of Ridley Whiteley & Co., Ltd., linoleum manufacturers in Edmonton, London. On August 19th., 1914, he was recalled to Switzerland to serve in the Army (he has his Swiss Army papers with him). He served there until the end of November. His division then got 2 months leave, and be applied and got 7 years leave to resume his employ in England. He returned to London at the end of January, 1915. In the meantime the firm of Ridley Whitley & Co., Ltd.,had gone into liquidation and Otto Stutz was out of employment. He obtained temporary employment with the firm of James Walker & Co., Ltd., Garford St. Poplar. Mr. Stutz was living at 14, Albert Road,

38, Finsbury Park. He then was employed by Messrs. Happe & Co., Fenchurch St. E.C. (Drugs etc.). He was informed through the Swiss Mercantile Society in London of an overses Vacancy in Hong- -kong. He went to Rotterdam to see the firm on August 1st. and returned to Ingland after a visit of 2 days. He was engaged and started on September 1st. in Rotterdam. After 3 weeks he proceeded to Switzerland to say good bye to his family and sailed from

Marseilles on October 9th.

5.

His frequent visits to Rotterdam may have excited suspicion, also the relationship of Ingenohl with the

German
